British Columbia Deaf Education Committee (BCDEC)

The BCDEC:

  1. Receives referrals based on recommendations from the student's current British Columbia School District;
  2. Reviews student’s educational placement needs; and
  3. Confirms eligibility for the BC School for the Deaf or Provincial Oral Program.
The Committee’s primary function is to review eligibility and confirm admission to the School. Upon request, the Committee can also be convened to review and provide consultation on student’s placement and educational needs.

Students/families and school districts may request recommendations on educational services for deaf and hard of hearing students at any time through the Provincial Outreach Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students.

British Columbia School Districts may contact Terry Maloney, administrator, for more information on how to apply for the BC School for the Deaf or Provincial Oral Program.
