Please note that the registration is now closed for all events. There are a few spots left in the ASL category of the Optimist contest. If you have a student who is interested to compete, please let us know by March 13th/


Please note several important deadlines.

March 1, 2019 (Registration for all events in DHHCW)

  • The registration deadline is now passed. If you are still collecting consent forms, please ensure we receive them in the first week of April.

March 13, 2019 (Optimist form submissions)

All speeches for students must be received by the posted deadline.

  • Optimist Application Form
  • Student's audiogram
  • Video for ASL speeches (if your student wins first place, he/she will be asked to resubmit the speech in written format)
  • Written copy for oral speeches

Please note that keeping these deadlines help us better organize logistics and travel bookings.

Optimist Competition

Sponsored by the North Shore Optimist Club

Registration: 8:00 - 8:45 am

Competition: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm


  • DHH Students in Grades up to grade 12 engage in a province-wide Communication Competition for Deaf & Hard of Hearing (Oral and ASL signing groups) to compete for honoraria and other exciting gifts.
  • DHH students (even if they aren't competing), Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Deaf community are welcome to attend. Come and support our DHH students.
  • Bring your students' FM receivers/Inspiros to the event for FM/DM access.

Topic for the 2018-19 School Year is: “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?”

BC Itinerant Conference 2019, Burnaby

Theme: Promoting Emotional Growth


  • All itinerant teachers can attend the Itinerant Conference.  Registration details will be provided by the Burnaby Team of TDHHs.

Scavenger Hunt


Out of town students only

  • POPDHH will arrange a scavenger hunt for their (Grade 6-12) students while out-of-town teachers are at the conference.  Unfortunately, we cannot include Lower Mainland students.
  • If students are accompanied by support staff for DHHCW, that support staff will be expected to accompany students to the scavenger hunt.
  • Bring your students' FM receivers/Inspiros to the event for FM/DM access.

BBQ and Games Night at Victory Hill

After the Scavenger Hunt, students from out of town are invited to participate in fun activities and build new friendships with residents. A BBQ dinner will be provided. Come join us and see what "dorm life" is like!

Science World, Vancouver

Registration: 9:30 - 10:00 (main entrance)

Activities: 10:00 onwards

  • All DHH students in Gr. K-12 are invited to spend the day at Science World, Vancouver, where they will engage in a variety of scientific exploration and activities.  This is a FREE field trip; however registration is required for final head count.
  • Teachers from local school districts are responsible for their own transportation arrangements (Skytrain may work best).   
  • Bring your students' FM receivers/Inspiros to the event for FM/DM access.
